VISION FOR ALL- Free cataract surgery drive

Vishvam Foundation, in proud association with Amma Eye Hospital, successfully organized and sponsored a comprehensive free cataract surgery initiative for underprivileged individuals from rural villages in and around Hassan, Karnataka. This humanitarian program was conceived with the vision of eliminating avoidable blindness and making quality eye care accessible to economically weaker sections of society who often delay or avoid treatment due to financial limitations and lack of awareness. Through extensive community outreach, awareness campaigns, and preliminary screening camps conducted across several villages, individuals suffering from cataracts were identified and sensitized about the importance of timely medical intervention. Patients were counseled and guided through the process, after which they were referred to Amma Eye Hospital for further evaluation.

Upon arrival at the hospital, every patient underwent a thorough medical assessment conducted by experienced ophthalmologists to determine their eligibility for surgery. After careful diagnosis and pre-operative examinations, eligible beneficiaries received completely free cataract surgeries performed by skilled medical professionals using safe and advanced techniques. Free transportation was organized to bring patients safely from their villages to the hospital and to drop them back after the procedures. Nutritious breakfast and refreshments were provided to all patients and their attendants, ensuring proper nourishment and comfort throughout the day. Free hospital accommodation was arranged for those who required overnight stay, along with round-the-clock medical supervision. Post-surgery medications, follow-up check-ups, and detailed recovery guidance were also provided at no cost, ensuring complete care beyond the operation itself.

Dedicated volunteers formed the backbone of this initiative and played a crucial role in its successful implementation. From coordinating transport schedules and assisting patients during travel to helping them complete hospital formalities and guiding them through various procedures, the volunteers provided constant support.
