Ms. Tanuja Gurunath, an MBBS student currently pursuing her medical studies in Russia and a native of Bagalkote, delivered an insightful and inspiring mental health awareness talk at St. Anne Convent School, Bagalkot. The session was organized with the objective of educating students about the importance of mental wellbeing and encouraging them to understand, express, and manage their emotions in a healthy way.
During her session, she spoke about common mental health challenges faced by students, such as academic pressure, exam stress, peer pressure, low self-confidence, and emotional imbalance. She explained these topics in a simple and relatable manner, helping students realize that such feelings are normal and manageable. She strongly emphasized that mental health is just as important as physical health and should never be ignored.
She shared practical strategies to cope with stress and anxiety, including time management, maintaining a balanced daily routine, practicing self-care, engaging in physical activities, and seeking support from family, teachers, or friends when needed. She also highlighted the importance of positive thinking, self-belief, and resilience in overcoming challenges. Her personal experiences as a medical student helped students connect deeply with her words and feel motivated.
The session was interactive and engaging, allowing students to ask questions freely and share their thoughts. Ms. Tanuja patiently addressed their concerns and encouraged open communication. This created a safe and supportive environment where students felt comfortable discussing mental health issues without fear or stigma.
She also spoke about recognizing early signs of mental distress and the importance of reaching out for professional help when necessary. By breaking common myths surrounding mental health, she helped students understand that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
